As you age, tooth loss is common. Thirty-five million people in the country do not have all of their upper or lower teeth. With advances in dental implant technology, you do not have to live with uncomfortable dentures or be embarrassed to smile. At Whole Dental Wellness in Birmingham, we offer All-on-4® dental implants, a cost-efficient graft solution that provides you with a fixed full-arch dental prosthesis on the same day.
Whole Dental Wellness utilizes dental implants that offer the ability to replace missing teeth with only four implants.
All-on-4® dental implants provide patients with a secure fit and natural feel compared to traditional dentures. These innovative implants use only four implants (depending on bone density), whereas other implant methods require eight to ten implants per jaw.
Your All-on-4® dental implants include:
Bone grafting is avoidable because the posterior implants are tilted and use your available bone.
You receive two straight anterior implants and two titled posterior implants.
For patients who qualify for immediate loading of implants, you will have a fixed provisional bridge, so there is no need to remove it for cleaning.
The most significant benefit of All-on-4® dental implants is that there is no waiting to be fitted.
You will receive your implants, be fitted on the same day, and walk out with a new smile. Hence the nickname, ‘same day teeth’ or ‘smile in a day implants. All-on-4® dental implants even work for patients who suffer from jaw bone loss.
You will discover that All-on-4® dental implants provide more comfort, convenience, and functionality than traditional dentures. Other All-on-4® dental implants benefits include:
Your dental specialist will work with you to ensure a proper fit. All-on-4 dental implants offer you peace of mind knowing your implants will stay in place and make it easier to clean.
During your consultation, our specialist dentist will provide a thorough examination and do a CT scan. The scan informs the doctor how much bone density you have and where the implants should be implanted. Your next step is to have dental impressions taken, which are then sent to a lab to create your new dental bridge.
On the day of your surgery, your dentist will drill two holes in the front and two holes in the back of your jaw at a 45-degree angle to provide greater support. Once the implants are placed, any incisions made are sutured. At this point, you are then fitted with your new teeth.
For a couple of weeks, you can expect some sensitivity in your mouth. It’s imperative not to rinse or touch your incisions for up to two days after your surgery.
We recommended a soft-food diet for the next six weeks for optimal healing. Use an ice pack as needed to combat swelling, and it is normal to see minor bleeding, which is stopped by placing a gauze pad on the area.
If you could not be fitted with your new teeth, your dentist will create a temporary denture in its place. In six to nine months, you are ready to support your permanent denture, which is often made with porcelain. It is lightweight and provides less pressure on your implants while your mouth heals. Your new teeth will last up to 20 years or longer, provided you take care of your teeth and gums.
Current denture wearers will have less adjustment time to their new All-on-4® implants, but adjustment time will vary for each patient.
If you have had prolonged tooth loss without dentures, there may be a more extended adjustment period, though this is not always the case. Once your dental implants are in place, it takes about four to six months for your bones to heal fully. However, with the All-on-4® dental implants, you can enjoy food the same day - albeit soft foods for a few weeks.
You deserve your smile and your confidence back. At Whole Dental Wellness, we can offer our patients both with All-on-4® dental implants. The procedure cost will vary for each patient. On average, the All-on-4 dental implant surgery costs between $12k to $25k. The price for All-on-4® is considerably less than traditional implants, which start at $40k for a complete set.
With proper care, your All-on-4® implants can last a lifetime, but they are made to last 20 years. The cost-benefit is considerable. If you think about it, most people do not get the same wear and tear on a vehicle. You use your teeth every day, and having the ability to chew food, speak clearly, and other oral functions make All-on-4 dental implants an excellent investment.
We will work with your insurance and discuss your coverage options. If there is a difference between your insurance provider’s coverage and what you owe, we will relay this information to you before your surgery.
Dentures or ‘false teeth’ have a gum-colored base made out of acrylic with teeth made from resin or porcelain. Dentures are removable and fit over the gums by suctioning in place. Over time, the gum shrinks because there is no bone to hold it into place, which causes dentures to slip or cause problems when eating. The All-on-4® dental implants are fixed in place and act as your natural teeth. They are unable to slip because they are drilled into your jaw bone. You can treat and care for your implants like your natural teeth.
